General FAQs
Is PCAF Free?
Entry to both days of the festival weekend (Academy Day and Market Day) are always free. Our artist talks, panels, workshops and other activities are also free entry, but may require a booking to manage room capacity. Our free events are often fully booked over the festival weekend, so be sure to get a ticket so you don’t miss out!
We also run satellite events throughout the year, and these might be paid events – check the event details to make sure!
Is PCAF a Charity/Not-For-Profit?
The Perth Comic Arts Festival is a Not-For-Profit Arts Organisation registered with the Australian Charities and Not-For-Profits Commission (ACNC).
Who organises PCAF?
The Perth Comic Arts Festival is made possible by:
- The Organising Committee, a group of volunteers who are passionate about the comic arts community of WA (you can read more about them here);
- Our General Members, who assist PCAF with matters of governance (many of whom also assist with the running of the festival);
- And our On-the-day Volunteers, who help us with ticketing, setting up and packing down the festival, manning the information desk, answering questions, and countless other tasks that need to get done.

I want to make comics! How do I get started?
Awesome! We recommend coming to our monthly PCAF Academy meetups, where you can meet and learn from other comic creators. You can also join the Facebook group and ask questions there.
But really, as long as you have drawing tools –– even if that’s just a notebook and a pencil –– that’s all you need! There’s no secret recipe, and sometimes the hardest part is just getting started. Don’t worry about if you’ll be able to do your epic concepts justice, and just get comfortable making comics with whatever ideas come into your head.
Start sketching comics and feel out what works for you, as everyone’s process and goals are different. It’s okay if those first attempts stay in your sketchbooks, but you can also try making short zines out of the ones that feel worth sharing. Many PCAF exhibitors get started that way.
See our Comics in WA page for more local inspiration and resources.
What is PCAF's stance on AI?
Perth Comic Arts Festival denounces all uses of generative artificial intelligence. PCAF will not knowingly promote AI-generated materials, nor will we allow any such work to be a part of our festival.

Market Hall
For a more detailed FAQ on Market Hall applications, check out the Market Hall page.
Who exhibits at the PCAF Market Hall?
The PCAF Market Hall is a celebration of comics and the creators who make them. The comics on display at the Market Hall range from trade print runs to DIY at home printed works, and we’re open to all different genres of comics as well as creators of all stages, be they hobbyists, students, or professional comic makers.
Our key requirement is that comics be the focus of all Market Hall tables.
While exhibitors are permitted to sell other items such as prints and stickers, if you work is more focused on illustration, fanart, and merchandise, the Market Hall may not be an appropriate event for you, and we recommend checking out our friends at Tokyo Alley Perth who run events with Artist Alleys of a broader scope.
Why is the PCAF Market Hall mostly half tables?
When visiting the PCAF Market Hall you may notice that the vast majority of exhibitors are allocated a half table, which is a bit different from some other artist alley/market events. Because PCAF is a dedicated comics event, our exhibitors should prioritise comics, ensuring they make up the majority of their stock. While half tables might mean exhibitors are not able to display as much non-comic stock as they may do otherwise at other events, it helps the Market Hall host as many different makers as possible.
Do I need a ticket to enter the Market Hall?
Not at all! The Market Hall is free for the public to come and go as they wish. Tickets are only required for events that have a limited capacity, like workshops, talks, etc.
Ticketing
Where can I get a ticket to your events?
We usually manage ticketing through our Humanitix page, but check the event details for specifics!
If an event is free, why do I need a ticket? Can't I just show up?
We often ticket our free events so we can manage the capacity of a venue for health and safety reasons. We also want to make sure everyone who wants to come to our event is able to and can be sure they’ve got a spot waiting for them when they arrive. It also really helps us manage an event when we know what the expected turnout is!
To avoid disappointment, especially if it’s an event during the festival, we really recommend you get a ticket. If the room is full and you don’t have a ticket, we’ll have to turn you away!
This event is sold out but I really want to come! Can you make space for me?
We recommend adding yourself to the waitlist via Humanitix – this option should show up when tickets are sold out. If someone cancels a ticket, Humanitix will automatically contact people on the waitlist with an opportunity to get a ticket.
I got a ticket but I can't come to this event anymore!
We usually set up our tickets on Humanitix to allow self-serve ticket cancellations – you can find instructions on how to do this here. If you’re having trouble cancelling your tickets, get in touch via Humanitix, or email info@pcaf.org.au. Please cancel your ticket even if the event is free – this frees up your spot so someone else can come!
We strongly encourage you to consider cancelling your ticket if you become unwell – our events are often indoors and can sometimes get quite crowded.
