Let’s all welcome our second international guest – Thi Bui

Thi Bui is the author of the bestselling and award winning graphic memoir, The Best We Could Do. She is the illustrator of the children’s book A Different Pond, which won a Caldecott Honor, Finding Papa, which received an honor from the Asian Pacific American Librarians Association, and Chicken of the Sea, a collaboration with her son, Hien.

Her short comics can be found on The Nib, Reveal News, PEN America, and BOOM California. She is currently writing and drawing NOWHERELAND, a work of graphic nonfiction about Asian Americans, immigrant detention, and deportation.

Thi will also be co-hosting one of our free talks on Academy Day and taking part in our Market Day. Make sure to keep an eye on our socials for our full program announcement as bookings will be essential for talks and workshops on both days. But the Market Hall on Sunday is always open to the public!

Reimena is a strange and fancy graphic novelist, illustrator and designer originally from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and currently based in Melbourne, Australia. She is also the curator behind the upcoming Comics Devices Resource and the co-founder and co-organiser of UNNAMED and the Cartoonist Cooperative.

We’re thrilled to have Reimena returning to PCAF and what a wonderful job she’s done bringing the 2024 poster to life, we love it!

Rosemary Valero-O’Connell is a cartoonist and illustrator born in Minneapolis, raised in Zaragoza, and currently residing in Brooklyn, New York.

She is the co-creator of acclaimed graphic novel Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up With Me, alongside Mariko Tamaki, and the sole creator of Don’t Go Without Me and Golden Record. Her work has received 2 Eisner awards, 4 Ignatz awards (including “Outstanding Artist” two consecutive years), a Harvey, a Prism, a Society of Illustrators Gold Medal, and a Printz Honor.

She hopes to one day own the largest collection of kewpie dolls in New York City.

We can’t wait to have them here in Perth!

2024 Volunteer applications Close

The Perth Comic Arts Festival is looking for volunteers!

As a non-profit event, we depend on our amazing volunteers for our festival to run smoothly. This year we need some limited assistance on Saturday the 27th for Academy Day and as many helpers as we can get on Sunday the 28th for Market Hall Day.

‘The Best Australian Yarn’ short story competition returns and with our support, is including ‘Comics‘ as a category for the very first time.

There are $6,000 of prizes to be won in the comics category with entries closing on the 12th of August.
